Providing a Sustainable Hot Water Solution for Sri Lanka Prison Wariyapola

Background

Sri Lanka Prison Wariyapola accommodates approximately 1,500 male and female prisoners who require a reliable hot water supply for daily activities. Currently, the prison lacks an adequate hot water system, leading to increased operational costs and inefficiencies in managing daily operations.

Challenge

The prison faces significant difficulties in providing the required 400 liters of hot water daily within its limited budget. Conventional heating methods, such as gas and wood, are too costly and unsustainable for long-term use. The growing demand for hot water for tea making, cooking, and other essential needs makes it necessary to implement a more economical and eco-friendly solution.

Solution

Installing three Biomass Hot Water Heaters (50L each) will provide a cost-effective and sustainable solution to meet the prison’s daily hot water demand. These heaters utilize biomass energy, reducing dependency on expensive gas while ensuring a consistent hot water supply. This system is already in use in various institutions and has proven to significantly lower operational costs and high efficiency. By implementing this solution, Sri Lanka Prison Wariyapola can enhance prisoner welfare, improve sanitation, and maintain cost efficiency within the allocated budget.
