Providing a Sustainable Hot Water Solution for Sri Sudarmarama Ancient Temple, Galle

Background

Sri Sudarmarama Ancient Temple, located in Galle, Sri Lanka, stands as a revered spiritual and educational center for monks and devotees. The temple is home to 16 resident monks and two elderly individuals, all of whom require a steady supply of hot water for their daily needs. Additionally, the temple hosts a Sunday Dhamma School and various religious ceremonies, including Poya Day programs and Buddhist events, where large quantities of hot water are essential for tea preparation and drinking.

A unique and significant feature of this sacred temple is its possession of Sri Lanka’s largest marble stone Buddha statue, adding to its historical and cultural importance.

Challenge

The temple currently relies on LP gas and electricity for heating water, incurring a significant financial burden. The increasing costs make it difficult to sustain these essential religious and communal activities. With the frequent need for hot water, the current system is neither cost-effective nor sustainable in the long run.

Solution

Installing a biomass hot water heater at the temple is an eco-friendly and cost-efficient solution that will ensure a continuous supply of hot water while reducing dependency on expensive LP gas and electricity. By implementing this system, the temple can focus its resources on its core religious and educational missions while promoting sustainability.

Let us join hands to support this Buddhist temple and contribute to a greener future through renewable energy solutions.
