Providing a Sustainable Hot Water Solution for Vidyakeerthi Maha Pirivena, Haguranketha

Background

Vidyakeerthi Maha Pirivena located in Haguranketha, is an ancient temple dedicated to providing spiritual guidance and religious learning to both monks and students. With an average of 130 monks and students, the temple plays a crucial role in nurturing Buddhist teachings and community welfare. However, the temple is facing significant challenges in accessing hot water, primarily due to the high cost of LP gas and electricity. A reliable and cost-effective hot water supply is essential for daily hot water needs and overall well-being.

The Challenge

Currently, the temple relies on LP gas, incurring a monthly expense of over Rs. 25,000 just for hot water. The center requires approximately 1,000 liters of hot water daily, primarily for tea preparation and drinking purposes. The rising costs of gas and electricity create a financial strain, making it difficult for the temple to allocate funds for other essential religious and educational activities. To ensure the continuity of their services, the temple urgently needs an affordable, sustainable, and long-term hot water solution.

The Solution

Installing a biomass hot water heater at Vidyakeerthi Maha Pirivena. Biomass heaters provide an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and sustainable alternative to LP gas, significantly reducing energy expenses while ensuring a consistent supply of hot water. This system will greatly benefit the monks and students, enhancing their daily comfort, hygiene, and overall well-being, while also supporting the temple’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Let’s come together to support this Buddhist temple while promoting renewable energy and sustainability.
